Lawyers for allowance parents resign from consultation with compensation organizationBy our newsroom Apr 03, 2023 at 7:24pm Update: 21 days ago696 commentsLawyers for victims of the Benefits scandal have left the consultation with the organization that should arrange compensation for the affected parents. According to the lawyers, the consultation is stalled and there will be no solutions to the “major bottlenecks” in the ongoing dossier.Dat, reports a spokesperson for the Dutch Bar Association (NoVa) NRC. Over the past year and a half, regular consultations have taken place between NoVa and the Implementation Organization for Recovery of Surcharges (UHT), the organization that must arrange compensation. The lawyers see no progress. “They just let things crash,” they tell the newspaper. With the recovery operation, the government wants to compensate the tens of thousands of parents who were affected by the Benefits scandal. Many thousands of parents have objected to UHT's decisions. According to the lawyers, the processing of these complaints is slow. At this rate, it would take at least another twelve years before all the objections are processed.

They have the feeling that the organization is not listening to what the lawyers and victims say. Documents about the parents who represent the lawyers are also regularly missing. The Ministry of Finance states NRC know that the consultation “has been temporarily suspended”. Prime Minister Mark Rutte said on Friday that the cabinet wants to come up with an improved approach “in the short term”. The third Rutte cabinet resigned due to the Allowance Scandal. The UHT itself previously indicated that the slow decision-making is partly caused by staff shortages and the large number of applications. The organization is unable to comply with the legal period for decisions. “And that will remain the case,” UHT representatives said recently.Follow the benefits scandal
