BNNVARA DRAMA SERIES 'THE ALLOWANCE AFFAIR' SHOWS IMPACT ON THE LIVES OF THOSE INVOLVED

BNNVARA is coming up with a three-part drama series that poignantly shows how the benefits scandal is disrupting the lives of affected families. A persistent lawyer, a whistle-blower and two journalists work with their parents to uncover the abuses.The lives of Kysia, Rayan and their two young children seem sunny and carefree. Until a tax letter from the Fees Department hits the mat. It is the start of a nightmare that will disrupt their entire existence. At first, they still think of a mistake, but when the debts pile up quickly and even the lawyer involved Vera cannot help them, panic sets in. The harsh “all or nothing” approach does not leave everyone cold in the tax authorities. Dennis, first a fanatical in the fight against fraud, is increasingly tormented by a twinge of conscience. At first, he shies away from a role as a whistle-blower. But when Dennis, himself just like a father, is immediately confronted with the damage his work causes, he can't stay aloof any longer. When Vera finally manages to get journalists interested in her tough fight for justice, Dennis must overcome his fear of getting caught. Meanwhile, media and politics are starting to stir and the scandal is about to come true. But is there still hope for Kysia, Rayan and their children by then? The screenplays are by Alma Popeyus and Hein Schütz (The Enclave, Offers) and directed by Joram Lürsen (Banker of the Resistance, Day & Night) .During the development of the series, various stakeholders discussed their experiences and extensive research has been done. The drama series was inspired by all these sources. The series is a dramatized interpretation of actual events.
