Honorary job for tax office boss, but victims of the benefits affair do not know where their children are
ColumnThe top officials of the tax authorities have still not been punished. Their fraud hunt, which lasted until 2019 and went against every law, was ruthless and inhumane. However, most of them are still in their seats. Others were promoted away.

The benefits affair ruined twenty thousand families financially. Some makeshift bandages have now been put on, but our government refuses to compensate for the true damage. Anyone who starts a lawsuit is opposed and put under severe legal pressure. Stephan and Roshni Vos know all about that. The Alphense couple wants to enforce compensation through the courts, gets ready for a bitter battle and tries to make ends meet in the meantime.

Every Saturday, columnist Dennis Captein writes a column about life in the Green Heart. Today, he writes about the benefits affair.

Not to mention the 2,000 children, who were removed from their homes by order of judges because their parents were no longer financially able to care for them. We now know that those parents were illegally led to the abyss by the tax authorities. So were their children allowed to return home? If only that were true. Some even have no idea where their kids are now.

According to the CBS, at least seventy children from the Green Heart were removed from home between 2015 and 2021. Inquiries show that our municipalities do not know where those children are currently staying, because that information is not shared with them. Youth services say nothing, neither does the Ministry of Justice and Security.

At the time, Jaap Uijlenbroek was director general of the tax authorities. So the top boss. He had to leave in 2019 due to the benefits scandal. But 24 hours later, he was allowed to work as the highest official in The Hague. After that, he was rewarded with an honorary job: director of Soestdijk Palace. Uijlenbroek and his family enjoyed a royal Christmas dinner and wishes everyone a happy New Year.
