Lives were shattered

Lives were shattered in the Allowance scandal: “My children, your children: they shouldn't be affected by this anymore” Background allowance victims The devastating verdict of the committee of inquiry's report on government fraud policy is “historic”. We now have an answer to the question why and that's what the new cabinet should work on. And yes, I would have liked names to be mentioned in the report. But I had decided not to set the bar too high beforehand. The most important thing is that it is resolved for us, that we get a rest, and that the children can get home safely [some of the victims have been moved out of their homes]. And so there are answers now. This is historic! If you hear that it could happen again tomorrow, as the committee writes, you will be afraid. Then it's hard to say: I'm going to work on my future. But that's what I'm going to do. I feel like I'm closing my process and I can't let my future depend on what was done to me. Moreover: this should not happen anywhere else. The people who come after me, my children, your children: they shouldn't be bothered by this anymore.”Janet Ramesar (39) — 'After more than four years, I'm a bit cynic'“I was at the presentation of the report and I thought: yes, what now? Who's going to do what with it? I'm a bit cynical after more than four years. I am still almost at the beginning of my financial processing. At first, I was hoping for a quick solution. Now I wonder how much longer everyone will remain outraged. A complaint has been filed against officials, against administrators. In the end, nothing happened. Who did it doesn't matter to me anymore, I just want it fixed. Both in terms of compensation and the systemic problem. I am upset that an entire committee had to be set up to investigate what we, as allowance parents, have been saying for years. On the other hand, I am relieved because unfortunately, these kinds of things are only taken seriously if there has been an investigation. About the systemic problem: I'm now also in politics myself, in the city council, and know that this isn't something you've solved with the blink of an eye.”Read also
