Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry into Fraud Policy and Services will present its report on 26 February

The Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry on Fraud Policy and Services will present its report on 26 February at 13:00 p.m.

The presentation takes place in the House of Representatives building.

Commission President Mchiel van Nispen explains the main findings, conclusions and recommendations.

President of Parliament Martin Bosma receives the report on behalf of the House of Representatives.

In recent years, various studies prior to this survey have increasingly provided insight into what took place in the benefits scandal. But the questions whether this is broader within social security and why this could have happened were not covered yet. The role of the House of Representatives, the use of risk profiles and data exchange were also not discussed earlier. Understanding the government's fraud policy, forming an opinion about it and drawing lessons for the future is the purpose of the parliamentary Fraud Policy and Services survey. Over the past two years, the committee has investigated how the fraud policy in social security and benefits was created, how it is implemented and the legal protection of people.

The committee

After its installation on 3 February 2022, the Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry into Fraud Policy and Services started to request and study documents and intelligence from various authorities. After this preparatory phase, the committee held a total of 118 closed preliminary interviews in 2023. The Committee of Inquiry started conducting 40 public hearings led by committee chairman Salima Belhaj in September 2023 and consisted of the members: Michiel van Nispen (vice chairman), Thierry Aartsen, Senna Maatoug, Lammert van Raan, Farid Azarkan, Evert Jan Slootweg, and Sylvana Simons. After installing the new House due to the elections, members Thierry Aartsen and Senna Maatoug, led by committee chairman Michiel van Nispen, completed the investigation.

Presentation

The presentation will take place on Monday, February 26, in the Statenpassage in the House of Representatives and can be followed live from 13:00 via the House of Representatives livestream and the Debate Direct app. A press conference will then take place.Read more about the parliamentary survey on Fraud Policy and Services at the commission page. What is a Parliamentary Inquiry?

A parliamentary survey is the toughest research tool that the House of Representatives has at its disposal if it wants to do research herself. Since the Second World War, this instrument has been used thirteen times before. A parliamentary survey makes it possible to request written information and documents from involved organizations and to hear witnesses and experts under oath. Dutch citizens who are called up by the committee are required to appear.
