Many allowance parents lost their children at the hands of the government. De Hofbar has been asking responsible minister Weerwind (D66) almost every week for a long time how many children have now returned to their parents.

“Sixteen,” the minister replied in July this year.

On December 5, he replied that “a letter will go to the House next week”. “First, I'm going to inform the House and then I'd love to come back to you,” Weerwind told Rutger Castricum.

Shady stuff
That letter did not come. De Hofbar contacted the minister's team, who indicated that the letter was ready but had not been sent yet.

Weerwind claimed that the letter is “not ready yet” and that he wants the figures “as careful as possible” first.

His team also told De Hofbar that the letter is not about how many children are back, but about how many more children have been removed from home. “And there are so shockingly many that you don't want to say that at the moment.” Castricum spoke of “shadowy stuff”.

23 children reunited
He has now received the letter in question. According to the letter, as many as 3,104 children were removed from home between 2005 and 2022, only 23 of whom were reunited with their parents.

A letter that outgoing Secretary of State De Vries (Allowances) previously sent to the House shows that a total of 482 children of victims have died. The largest group of deceased benefit children was under 5 years old: 353 children. Between the ages of 6 and 17, 67 children died.
